As when boundaries meet, the meeting of two completely different materials is what makes the 58ºN which came into being in a coffee bar in Oslo. It was in this coffee bar that the idea came about for a cool and simple design, where functionality, form and material are part and parcel of this well-known everyday product.

Our idea was to design a salt and pepper set that would be robust, and at the same time elegant. This is an everyday item for different types of table arrangements and people want it to retain its newness and purpose for a long time. In itself the design is simple: function first withmaterial consisting of detail hence its distinctive characteristics. The contrast is striking due to the porcelain being fine, hard and cold as opposed to its cork which is dark and warm; in addition its surface is rough which gives it a comfortablegrip.
